Unless you see termite swarmers, you will rarely come across actual termites, as all their activity is carried out within a structure. It’s smart to look for both the physical evidence termites leave behind, as well as the damage they may cause within your home or business. Here’s what to look for:
Termite signs. If termites are living within a structure, there will be evidence left behind of their activity. Frass or droppings can look like sawdust or wood shavings and is brown to black in color. Additionally, look for shed termite wings often left in piles, as well as, swarming termites which are often confused for flying ants.
Structural damage. If you notice warped ceilings, blistered cabinets or flooring, holes in your walls, mud tubes or cracks near the home’s foundation, or peeling paint on walls, you may have termites. To test, knock on any wood you suspect to be infested, and if you hear a hollow noise in return, you very likely have termites.
